About Us

StickyTiger Supplies was set up in late 2009 by me, Nicola Barton.  It was organic and somewhat unplanned route - more evolution than well thought through researched business idea my old business degree lecturers would have hoped for.  Here's the story of how StickyTiger came to be...

Crafts figured highly in my life at a very early age when our family lived in South Shields. Mainly because my Little Nana (I had another Nana imaginatively, if not unwittingly rudely, named Big Nana) was an Artist.   She encouraged us grandchildren to create and craft, play and experiment, express and examine.  Mainly we made things out of junk, mainly the results were junk but we loved it all the same, as (we think) did our parents1 who graciously accepted their handmade writing sets, beach shell jewellery boxes, knitted all-sorts and crocheted whatnots with delight.

Fast forward a few years; all grandparents as well as my father had passed away; those of us that were left moved away along with the creative influence.  A European Business degree and a career in Recruitment & HR followed.  By 2008 I started to think there was more to life than absence records and employment contracts, Corporate life was taking its toll and I became ill.  It was suggested I took a craft course as a way of finding an outlet for my stress and to meet other people.  My first course was learning to knit with wire, then another in jewellery making, then bag making, then another in something else and another...

By 2009 I had left my job through ill health but was determined I wouldn't let illness beat me so I started making crafts to sell. Friends started asking if I could get supplies for them too.   That's when the idea of a craft supplies business started to form.  Lots of hard work, making contacts and lesson learning later StickyTiger2 Supplies was born.

Today StickyTiger Supplies prides itself on friendly and helpful customer service, continues to focus on offering something a little different for the crafter, likes nothing more than going the extra mile for a grateful customer and is a sucker for a pretty please and a smile!

1 In fact, when my dad died I discovered he had kept his cards, writing sets and whatnots.  Very touching.

2 So what about the name? 'StickyTiger' began life in somewhat different circumstances  Sticky and Tiger were the respective nicknames for me and my husband Tony; mine came about through my first graduate job (we won't go into how that was acquired though...) and Tiger was the sarcastically apt nickname applied to mild mannered Tony, who by fluke loves tigers (he has an adopted one named Diamond in the Isle of Wight Sanctuary).  When we got married in 2007, we created a website full of information about the wedding as well as guest profiles and chose StickyTiger as the website name.  The creative juices had started to return by that point, although some of our close friends and family might have preferred they hadn't as they were asked for an artistic contribution which formed part of the wedding favours.  It was an eventful day to say the least!

We Love!
